Donald Hall, the Chief Engineer, played a crucial role in the construction of the iconic Spirit of St. Louis aircraft. His exceptional expertise and determination enabled the project to be completed within an impressive 60-day timeline, surpassing the initial 90-day contract. This allowed Lindbergh to win the Ortieg Prize in Paris, France on May 21st 1927.
Hall’s influential leadership convinced company owner Ben Mahoney to accelerate the production schedule, despite added labor costs, ensuring the timely completion of the Spirit of St. Louis. Donald took on the added responsibility of parts checker. Hall meticulously examined each component and verified their quality to ensure seamless integration. Lesser know, however, was his passion for photography and the natural world.
