DID YOU KNOW?! 🌬️✈️ When Lindbergh soared across t DID YOU KNOW?! 🌬️✈️ When Lindbergh soared across the Atlantic in 1927, he and his engineer had NO IDEA about the jet stream or westerly winds cruising at 100+ mph above! These high-altitude power boosts: totally mysterious back then: helped shave HOURS off his 40-hr flight math, making history faster than anyone thought possible. Nearly lost to history, it was nature: not just engineering: that gave the Spirit of St. Louis its legendary edge!

Did you know the incredible story of the Spirit of Did you know the incredible story of the Spirit of St. Louis was nearly lost forever: until a family trunk was discovered in Sedona in 1999?! That trunk held photos and documents from Donald Hall, the forgotten chief designer, and the original engineering team!

This year marks the 100th anniversary of their record-breaking flight, but here’s why it truly matters for today’s kids:

🌟 The men in this 1927 "team selfie" proved young dreamers from ANY background could revolutionize aviation using teamwork and bold ideas.
🌟 Donald Hall’s story reminds us: you don’t have to fit the mold to make history. Your creativity and curiosity can take flight: just like theirs!

Let’s inspire the next century of pilots, engineers, and innovators. Tag a young dreamer who belongs in aviation! 🚀✈️💙 #IamWAI #WomeninAviationInternational #WeAreWAI #Spirit100 #STEMeducation #AviationHistory #FlyingOverTime #YoungDreamers
DID YOU KNOW?! The Spirit of St. Louis: built for DID YOU KNOW?! The Spirit of St. Louis: built for Charles Lindbergh's nonstop flight: had NO front windshield! 🚀👀 Donald Hall engineered this icon for SPEED and RANGE, not comfort. Pilots today would be SHOCKED! Instead, Lindbergh peered out the side window and a tiny periscope to guide his historic journey across the Atlantic. ✈️🕵️‍♂️

Why such risky choices? Every ounce saved meant extra fuel for those 33 wild hours over the ocean! The controls? Simplified. The cockpit? Cramped. The result? Aviation history made possible by creative, fearless problem-solving.

This is one of the most famous photographs taken o This is one of the most famous photographs taken of Charles Lindbergh. This photograph was taken in 1927 in the month of February when the race was still on. What for? $25,000 was offered for the first to fly non-stop from New York to Paris.

There was a little additional room in the engineer's office so they pushed a desk in so that Donald Hall and Charles Lindberg would be within arm's reach for the next 60 days. Donald Hall took this world famous photo... As Charles Lindbergh was figuring out oceanic navigation. With Donald 's recent expertise from the DWC Would Flight, they were confident. Donald stayed up for days (see his time chart 👇 ) straight to finish the initial layout and design So that the work Cruise could get started on something.

The building and engineering of the "Spirit of St. Louis" was a giant jigsaw puzzle, choreographed with now famous production manager Hawley Bowlus, and empowered by the company owner: Frank Mahoney...

All quarterbacked by Donald Hall, the Chief Engineer. And it succeed, now it hangs in the Smithsonian in Washington, DC.
