Provenance and Copyright Protection
All photographs, blueprints, and archival materials within the Donald A. Hall Estate Collection are strictly protected by federal copyright law. This collection’s copyright was formally secured and locked for a 75-year term following the publication of the book Spirit and Creator (2001) and the archive's inaugural digital publication on CharlesLindbergh.com in partnership with Pat Ranfranz (late 2002). As the physical owners of hundreds of original 1927 negatives detailing the Spirit of St. Louis and its engineering, the Estate claims and actively protects full rights over all high-resolution reproductions derived from these assets.
Personal, Educational, and Research Use
We welcome the use of our digital archive for personal, recreational, and educational purposes. While non-commercial downloading is permitted, we strongly request a donation of $1 to $10 to support the youth STEM education mission of our 501(c)(3) non-profit, Flying Over Time.
Bluetail.aero Research Portal
Educators and researchers may request exclusive access to our newly digitized, high-resolution archive hosted by Bluetail.aero. Access requires formal approval, and a charitable donation is suggested.
Commercial Licensing
Any reproduction, distribution, or publication of images for commercial use requires express written permission and a formal licensing agreement. Our licensing rates are highly competitive compared to traditional commercial media archives, and 100% of the proceeds directly fund the ongoing preservation efforts of the Estate and the workforce development mission of Flying Over Time.
