Light Cruiser USS Memphis (CL-13) Underway at Sea (June 1927)

An archival maritime photograph capturing the Omaha-class light cruiser USS Memphis (CL-13) underway at sea during June 1927. Designated by President Calvin Coolidge as the presidential flagship to repatriate Charles A. Lindbergh and the Spirit of St. Louis, the warship carried the aviator and crated aircraft across the Atlantic Ocean. The photograph shows the cruiser's profile, including its four funnels, scout plane catapults, and streamlined hull cutting through open water toward the Chesapeake Bay and Washington, D.C.
