Ryan NYP Forward Fuselage Uncowled Showing Engine Mount and Oil Tank (1927)

An archival flightline photograph of the Ryan NYP Spirit of St. Louis parked outside the Ryan hangar with nose cowlings removed. The exposure reveals the 223-horsepower Wright J-5C Whirlwind 9-cylinder radial engine bolted to the circular steel-tube mount, the 25-gallon nose oil tank, copper oil lines, and the engine-turned aluminum firewall. In the left background, an airfield visitor stands beside a vintage 1920s coupe parked in front of an airport building, providing authentic historical context of Dutch Flats during pre-flight maintenance.
