Ryan NYP Low-Altitude Speed Calibration Run at Dutch Flats (May 1927)

An archival engineering action photograph capturing the Spirit of St. Louis flying at high speed at eye level across the dirt runway at Dutch Flats. Flying in level attitude just above the ground line, the image records Donald Hall and Charles Lindbergh conducting timed speed runs between measured ground markers to calibrate the cockpit pitot-static airspeed indicator prior to cross-country trials.
