Rocky Desert Plateau and Gorge (1927)

An elevated wide-angle view looking down across a rugged desert plateau toward a distant winding river gorge framed by rolling hills. — Rocky Desert Plateau and Gorge (1927) · Donald A. Hall Estate Collection

Offering a high vantage point, this rocky desert plateau in Southern California was photographed by Donald A. Hall Sr. in 1927. The same spatial awareness required to design the Spirit of St. Louis is evident in Hall's framing of the vast landscape.
