Palm Oasis and Stream (1927)

A shaded palm oasis with tall fan palms and weathered boulders lining a shallow stream cutting through a desert canyon. — Palm Oasis and Stream (1927) · Donald A. Hall Estate Collection

A quiet, shaded alcove within the harsh Southern California desert environment, found and photographed by Donald A. Hall Sr. in 1927. The Spirit of St. Louis designer used his Leica screw-on lens to beautifully expose the cool shadows against the bright exterior light.
