Resting on the concrete coping of an outdoor fountain pool, a young woman in a textured knit sweater and white skirt pauses with books beside her. Framed against an ivy-draped wall, this 1927 portrait by Donald A. Hall Sr. showcases his sensitive handling of soft courtyard lighting and relaxed natural posing.
