Donald A. Hall Estate Collection

Young Donald A. Hall Sr. in World War I Service Uniform in Brooklyn (Circa 1918)

A rare early biographical portrait of Donald A. Hall Sr. standing in the yard of his family home at 286 Dahill Road in Brooklyn, New York. Hall is depicted in the U.S. Army Model 1917 service uniform—complete with high standing collar, brass insignia, buttoned tunic, breeches, and canvas puttees—holding his peaked service cap in his right hand. Taken circa 1917–1918 during his enrollment in the Student Army Training Corps (SATC) at Pratt Institute, the image shows the multi-story wooden row houses, picket fence, and brick chimneys of Brooklyn, documenting Hall's wartime service prior to beginning his career in aviation.
