Army Infantry Advancing with Fixed Bayonets Beneath Aircraft Formation (Circa 1926)

A rare documentary record of interwar military combined-arms doctrine, Donald A. Hall Sr. photographed U.S. Army infantrymen in M1917 Brodie helmets advancing through rugged brush terrain with M1903 Springfield rifles and fixed bayonets. Directly overhead, a tactical three-plane formation of military biplanes flies in close air support. Photographed during joint field maneuvers at Camp Bullis near San Antonio, Texas, the image illustrates the military field training Hall surveyed prior to his return to California.
