Rustic Log Railing and Santa Monica Bay Vista (1927)

A rustic wooden branch fence and coastal agave framing an elevated ocean vista across Santa Monica Bay under an overcast sky. — Rustic Log Railing and Santa Monica Bay Vista (1927) · Donald A. Hall Estate Collection

Framing the Pacific horizon through a handcrafted rustic log railing in Palisades Park, this 1927 negative demonstrates Hall's eye for natural foreground framing. Spiky agave and rugged bluff formations lead the eye toward the distant curve of the Malibu coastline.
