The earliest surviving biographical photographic artifact in the Donald A. Hall Estate Collection, capturing Donald A. Hall Sr. as an infant in Brooklyn, New York, circa 1898–1899. Hall is dressed in a traditional Victorian white christening gown, seated in an ornate high-backed wicker peacock chair. Preserved in the family archives, this portrait records the childhood origins of the engineer who would design the Spirit of St. Louis.
