Air-to-Air Flight Test of Hall X-1 Above San Diego Bay (1928)

An air-to-air high-angle view of the Hall X-1 prototype X7621 banking high above the urban grid of San Diego and coastal bay. — Air-to-Air Flight Test of Hall X-1 Above San Diego Bay (1928) · Donald A. Hall Estate Collection

A breathtaking air-to-air photograph capturing the experimental Hall X-1 (X7621) banking smoothly in high-altitude flight above San Diego. The camera looks past the tandem-wing monoplane toward the sprawling street grid of downtown San Diego, Coronado, and the waters of the bay. Piloted during performance trials to verify control harmony and hands-off stability, this photograph documents the successful flight envelope of Hall's radical aerodynamic design.
